Remembering Our Founder, James Philip Donnelly
1st September 2026It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our founder, James Philip Donnelly.
Jim founded Martin Mathew & Co Ltd in 1973, naming the company after his two sons, Martin and Matthew. What began over five decades ago has grown into the business we are proud to be today, while remaining firmly within the family.
He dedicated much of his working life to building the company. Through his hard work, determination, and commitment, he laid the foundations for the company and the values that continue to guide us today.
Jim’s legacy extends far beyond the business he created. Being a true character in the Food Trade but also a much-loved father and grandfather, and it is particularly special that the company bearing his sons' names continues through the family today.
We are immensely proud of everything James achieved and grateful for the foundations he laid. The legacy will continue with the great people who work here, and the generations of our family who follow him.
We would like to thank our customers, suppliers, colleagues, and friends, past and present, who have been part of his journey.
